Code Nation and Dreamr Collaborating to Benefit the Manchester Tech Industry

By 6th August 2018 No Comments

Dreamr is very excited to announce its growing relationship with Manchester coding school, Code Nation. Code Nation is a fantastic organisation that offers coding courses to students of all levels, based in Manchester City Centre. We hugely admire the work of Code Nation and believe they are the perfect organisation for Dreamr to collaborate with going forward.

Being based in Manchester, and with both companies heavily involved in the tech industry, both Dreamr and Code Nation believe working together closely in the future is an amazing decision that will benefit the Manchester tech industry.

About Code Nation

Code Nation was founded last year by CEO Andy Lord. His mission was to create an ‘army’ of coders who can go on to build awesome careers in the tech industry. Andy has been involved in the tech recruitment industry for many years prior and has witnessed how the current digital skills shortage in the UK affects companies first hand. He created Code Nation to combat this growing problem.

Dreamr recently signed up to become a Code Nation Pledger. An amazing scheme that enables businesses the opportunity to take on Code Nation developers before anyone else, and giving back to the community with mentoring, workshops and live projects for their students.

A New Starter from Code Nation

Thanks to Code Nation we managed to recently fill our new Junior Web Developer role and secure a fantastic new addition to our team. Matthew joined our team last week fresh out of Code Nation. He expressed his opinions on his time at the Manchester-based coding school:

From Code Nation to Dreamr – Matthew joined us at the end of July.

“Code Nation aided me massively in gaining industry experience. The school assisted me in ways that I didn’t think a standard college course would necessarily be able to. Code Nation is much more up to date and relevant to the tech industry. During my 12-week course, I learnt new methodologies and got to work with people in similar situations as myself, then secured myself a role at Dreamr at the end.

“Code Nation is great as there are lots of people from the tech industry involved with the organisation, they come in and give talks and can advise us on our future careers. Code Nation helped me get onto the tech career ladder and joining their course was definitely the right decision.”

Why Create These Networks?

At Dreamr we love using our experience to assist others wanting to gain experience in the tech world. That’s why we are looking forward to being further involved with mentoring at Code Nation. We are keen to get some of the Dreamr team visiting the school, giving talks about recruitment and offering advice about agency life and potential future tech careers.

The digital skills shortage in the UK (and even more specifically in the North) is becoming a very real situation for a lot of companies in the tech industry. Code Nation offers a fantastic opportunity to bridge this gap and make a change. Something we at Dreamr fully support and can’t wait to be involved with.

Dreamr’s Director of People and Culture, Lynne, said:

“As soon as I met Andy and heard about his vision for Code Nation and the next digital generation, I knew Dreamr would be an ideal collaborator, as we share that strong desire to narrow the digital skills gap.

Our first hire from Code Nation, Matt, has already proved himself to be engaging, driven and quick to learn; all attributes we value here.

I can’t wait to meet the next cohort and work closely with them, to help shape them for an exciting future. Knowing that the work we do with Code Nation’s students will make a difference to their careers as well as equipping the Manchester tech community with the skills it needs totally aligns with Dreamr’s values.”
